MAJOR INCIDENT
A major incident can be defined as any emergency that requires the implementation of special arrangements by one or more of the Emergency Services, the NHS or local Authority for: The initial treatment, rescue and transport of a large number of casualties.
IMPACT ON STAFF
The psychological impact of a major incident on patients and staff involved in a major incident cannot be underestimated. The effect can be immediate or not be apparent for a few weeks to months afterwards. The leaflet below can be given to patients and staff to provide information on how they could be expected to feel after a traumatic experience.
